Confidentiality & Legal Protection

Will my identity be protected if I report suspected child abuse?

All reports of suspected child abuse or neglect are treated as strictly confidential.

Under Section 116 of the Child Act 2001, any person who makes a report that a child is in need of protection:

  • Will not be liable for defamation or legal action

  • Will not be considered in breach of professional ethics

  • Will have their identity protected and not disclosed without written consent, except by court order

Witnesses in legal proceedings are also not required to disclose the identity of the person who made the report.

Your concern could protect a child and save a life. Reporting is not an accusation - it is an act of care.
